At Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School we integrate technology into the life of the student, focusing on how technology prepares students for life-long learning. Through the use of notebook computers, students and staff have wide access to technology as well as opportunities to develop skills and confidence in using the medium to transform their teaching and learning. Notebook computers enable students to actively incorporate available technological tools and applications. Teachers routinely integrate technology, providing engaging and enriched learning opportunities.
Technology plays a very significant role at all levels of our School. Students in Grades 1 to 5 use a classroom set of electronic notebooks while students from Grades 6 to 12 are assigned their own notebook for the school term. Classrooms are outfitted with integrated Smartboards to enhance teaching and learning. A variety of other technology tools are available for use in the classroom such as GPS units, digital cameras, and digital probes.
The Internet is not only used for gathering information, it is also used to assist with project based learning, collaboration, publication and communication. In this way, students are encouraged to work on solving real problems and issues. They develop strong critical thinking skills as they learn to analyze and synthesize information. In addition, public speaking and presentation skills are highly developed through the application of technology resources.
At STS, we endeavour to provide students with experience using the most recent hardware and software to enhance their educational experience and to prepare them for the future.
